University of Nebraska – Omaha Band Alumni Registration
UNO Band Alumni Association Directory Update
By Doug Babic, Class of 2004
The Band Alumni Association is in the process of updating its database. The assistance of former members of any of the university concert, jazz and marching bands is requested to successfully complete this project. Because bands membership is comprised of students from all majors on campus, it is difficult to keep track of all of the former participants once they graduate. This effort is intended to reconnect members with their former colleagues.
Directory entries will include your name (including maiden name if appropriate), address, email address, phone numbers, degree earned, and employment/professional data. The directory is for official university use and will not be distributed or shared with any other entity. However, those who wish to have contact information shared with other band alums will have the option of permitting that information to be distributed
Those who are already receiving music department and/or alumni bands mailings should confirm the accuracy of that contact information and update missing or incorrect data. Those who are not receiving department mailings certainly should respond as we probably do not have current contact information. Those who wish to be removed from any current music or bands mailing lists may request that this be done by contacting us as well.
To confirm, add, or remove your information from the UNO Bands Alumni Directory, or for other information please contact:
Doug Babic, Chair of the Bands Alumni Association at the Bands website (www.unobands.com) or directly by email (unobandalumni@hotmail.com).
You also may submit updated information to:
UNO Band Alumni Association
C/O Dr. James Saker, Director
The University of Nebraska Omaha Bands
Omaha, NE 68182 – 0245
Or by email at jsaker@mail.unomaha.edu
Additional information is available at the bands website (www.unobands.com).
Please note the Band Alumni Directory is not associated directly with the UNO Alumni Association. Even if you currently receive the UNO Alum magazine or other Alumni mailings, the information in the University Bands Alumni database may not be current or complete.
In recent years the awareness of the outstanding musical accomplishments of the University or Nebraska at Omaha Bands has become increasingly well known. With five European tours presented by the Symphonic Wind Ensemble (including the May 2006 tour which is the subject of an article in the recent edition of the UNO Alum) and the 2003 tour of the Jazz Ensemble, international audiences also have had the opportunity to experience the musical performances of these groups. The Marching Mavericks represented the State of Nebraska in the 2005 Presidential Inaugural Parade and continue to perform throughout the region. Numerous nationally and internationally prominent guest artists and conductors continue to appear with the bands and both the Wind Ensemble and Jazz Bands have been selected to perform for numerous regional, national, and international conferences and festivals. In March, the membership of the College Band Directors National Association voted to choose UNO as the host site for the 2008 North Central Division conference.
We urge all bands alums to update contact information so that you will receive information about these and the many other exciting events that will occur in the months and years to come including plans for future marching, concert, and jazz band alumni activities. We welcome your comments and suggestions at any time.
